This session will feature volleyball Hall-of-Famer Marv Dunphy, and is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 25 at 2:00pm Eastern, 11:00am Pacific. (We may adjust the times to match Marv’s schedule, and I’ll make sure to let you know if it changes.) This session is also FREE, and open to anyone who has participated in a previous Coaches Workshop. (If you haven’t yet, just contact me directly at [email protected] and we can discuss.)

I won’t be the host for this one, I’ll be a participant along with the rest of you. The host will be Marv’s longtime Pepperdine assistant, and current Pepperdine Men’s Volleyball Head Coach, David Hunt.

This will be our final session of 2020!

Spring and summer are usually times when I learn the most, and I’m not unique in that regard. For many women’s volleyball coaches, spring marks the time to get in other gyms, watch other practices, and learn from other coaches. Summer might mean a time to study video, sharpen your coaches eye, work camps, and get prepared for the upcoming fall.

Coronavirus changed that for myself, as well as most coaches in the USA. I started this series of Coaches Workshops as a way to scratch my own itch and continue learning from coaches I wanted to learn from. What better way to end the summer then a conversation with one of the greatest volleyball coaches of all time?

Marv was the Head Coach of the Gold Medal-winning 1988 USA Men’s Olympic Team. He was also an assistant for 6 (!) other Olympic teams, and I got to know Marv closely as he was an assistant on the 2014 Gold Medal-winning USA Women’s World Championship team, where I was also an assistant. As Head Coach of Pepperdine Men’s volleyball he won his first National Championship in 1978 and his last in 2005, a remarkable run that included too many Final Fours and All-Americans to count.

This final Workshop of 2020 will be fairly unstructured, in order to maximize Q&A opportunity. Come prepared with your questions and sign up quickly, as this session will fill up FAST!
